Classified into 11 categories.
Introduce one by one with free description below.

img111.jpg

(1) Facilities and systems are separated by gender (8

  • There are only shoe racks and toilets for men and women, so I can't concentrate on my training, and above all, I can't use the gym with peace of mind, so I naturally stopped walking.

  • I left the gym because I didn't want to change clothes and take a shower in a private room, and other users stared at me.

  • Non-binary and legally female. When I use the locker room or shower, it hurts to be seen as not a woman and be stared at, or told I'm in the wrong place.

img112.jpg

(2) Lack of understanding of illness and disability (7

  • I tend to get sick, so I feel like I can't keep up and it's not fun.

  • I have a panic disorder and am nervous most of the time, and when my gym instructor is too active and too much encouragement, it's mentally exhausting. I would also like to hear about your situation and feelings.

  • I wanted to do yoga, but I had to quit because it was difficult to hear when the music overlapped with the voice.

  • I can't hear the voice instructions for swimming. Even if you normally wear hearing aids, it is difficult to use general gyms because they are not waterproof hearing aids (I don't know about cochlear implants).

img113.jpg

(3) Lack of understanding and no response to trans people (7

  • Since the address and name are confirmed at the gym facility in the city, the name on the family register is known and registered as a user card.

  • The rules of the facility said, "People with gender identity disorder are not allowed to use it." (A major gym.)

  • I didn't have any problems telling the chiropractic clinic that I was transgender, but it was a pity that I had to wear men's clothes for the procedure because of the length of the clothes I could change.

img114.jpg

(4) Discriminatory and unfriendly to LGBTQ (6)

  • I was uncomfortable with dressing up as a woman and acting amusing at a Christmas event.

  • Instructors and users may give love stories on the premise of syshetero.

  • In places where conversation occurs, it tends to develop into private matters such as family structure.

img115.jpg

(5) Imposing stereotypes on gender, appearance, etc. (4)

  • For women, yoga and fitness clubs were divided into classes by gender, such as dieting, and it was difficult to assume the purpose of use, so it did not last long.

  • I was told that ``Mugwort extract penetrates from the vagina to the uterus and activates female hormones,'' and I thought that the treatment that proceeded on the premise that everyone who looks like a woman has a female genitalia is not suitable.

  • I didn't need to hear this information when learning yoga, but I was uncomfortable with being asked where my roots were based on my appearance and name and being made to reveal my origins.

Five. Reasons why people who answered that they have never used it want to go but cannot go.

Free description example

Anxiety and feeling out of place (5

  • I'm worried about loud noises, voices, and music that I'm not good at. I'm worried because I can't imagine what kind of place it is in the first place

  • There is also the assumption that it is not a place for those who have never exercised or exercised, and the hesitation that it will be a nuisance if you go.

★It doesn't seem to be LGBTQ friendly (5

  • I feel that people who are neither female nor male are not expected.

  • There is a discourse that transgender should not be used (Konami Sports Club lawsuitand refusal to join a golf club, etc.)

6-利用しない理由.jpg

6. Top 3 facilities that feel "difficult to visit"

A sports gym by far, followed by an esthetic salon, and a sauna.

7-上位3つ.jpg

7. Reasons why you feel "difficult to go"
1st place: Gym

  • It is difficult to participate in places where you have to undress in a crowd of people and wear clothes that are easy to line.

  • Because it is a transformer, it is very careful to use the changing room and shower.

  • Due to the administration of hormones, she looks male, but since she has not undergone any surgery and is female, it is difficult to get a chance to undress.

  • Whether it's a female-only facility or a mixed-gender facility, I'm not good at competing with others (I like exercise, but I hate physical education), so I'm conscious of what I can't do when there are other users, and it's not fun.

img120.jpg

2nd place: beauty salon

  • There is an image that men are somehow difficult to use.

  • It's hard to go if you're in a trance-like position.

  • There are many beauty salons that have the image of being naked and are only for women, and it seems that it is physically difficult for men (transgender and un-surgery) to enter. The more the salon puts effort into beauty, the higher the hurdle with the impression that it puts "femininity" on the front. The impression that the salon is more healthy than that is still better.

  • She is interested in beauty salons and massages, but feels resistance to having her body touched.

  • Heterosexuality is talked about (esthetic)

img121.jpg

3rd place: sauna, enzyme bath, mugwort steaming

  • Many saunas are separated for men and women.

  • “Sauna and enzyme bath” have higher hurdles than beauty salons. I think it's a place where you can spend your time naked, so it's completely separated between men and women, and you can't go unless it's a charter.

img122.jpg

4th place~

  • The management policy of esthetics and yoga studios is too much for women.

  • I feel like I'm being questioned about my gender and that I have to dress according to one gender.

  • 24-hour gyms and other places where there are no attendants are more risky when you think about being alone with a suspicious person or dangerous intruders. The fact that it is difficult to see from the outside is also a big risk.

  • If something bad happens to me, I don't know if they will be on my side.

  • There is a belief and hesitation that personal gyms are not places for people like myself.

8. Easy-to-use facilities/environment

High demand for private rooms and policies

★ Classification of free description

・ Respect the individual, customer service, service content, management policy (6

・Understanding of illness and disability (5

・ LGBTQ friendly (4

・Response with awareness of diversity (4

9-利用しやすい施設.jpg

9. Sports gyms, exercise environments, lessons, services, and other things that make you wish to have something related to exercise and health.

The descriptive responses were classified into 9 items.
Examples of free description are given below.

img125.jpg

(1) LGBTQ Friendly (15

  • There are private changing rooms, toilets, and saunas, and lessons, programs, lockers, and shoeboxes are not divided into “men and women”.

  • Member cards without gender columns, medical questionnaires, and counseling sheets respond to diverse genders.

  • I would like you to clearly state that trans and non-binary people are welcome on your website, etc., and also include an anti-harassment policy.

  • I want you to put rainbow stickers on it and secure a safe place for people who are sexually transmitted.

  • Don't judge gender by looks. Private changing rooms, showers, and posters calling on people not to judge a person's gender based on their appearance.

  • A genderless figure skating club, a ballet studio with adult classes that are easy for adult men and trans people to join.  A ballroom dance club for same-sex couples.

  • If there is an LGBTQ person in the staff, I would be happy if I could consult them in case of emergency.

img126.jpg

(2) transgender needs (6

  • I was wondering if the health facility included voice training.

  • It would be nice if there were muscle training to make the chest smaller, an exercise menu, or a trance-friendly service.

  • Health information after hormone therapy/SRS is scarce. When I receive SRS overseas, I feel anxious because I don't know who to turn to when I have trouble after returning home. There is also a story that he was forced to undergo a medical examination with his previous gender even though he had already changed his family register just because he had declared SRS in his surgery history.

  • A list of hot springs, sports, health and beauty facilities that are open to trans women as well as other attributes.

img127.jpg

(3) Understanding illnesses and disabilities, barrier-free (15

  • Some people with chronic diseases want to exercise. I would like you to collaborate with university hospitals, etc., and research what kind of load can maintain health in a well-balanced manner.

  • Since I have a mental disorder, I would like to be treated without pressure.

  • Knowledge of people with disabilities and understanding of the social model of disability.

  • Things like instructors who can sign language, subtitles on TV, yoga, equipment that displays subtitles underwater.

  • Wheelchair rentals, places to lie down, relaxing atmosphere, lighting and music.

img128.jpg

(4) Not greedy, can do things at one's own pace (5)

  • Perhaps because of physical education, I have a very narrow way of thinking about sports. If only I had more opportunities to meet a comfortable way to move my body.

  • Facilities for healthy people to improve their health are not suitable. While in the hospital, he underwent rehabilitation to promote recovery in the hospital's rehabilitation room, but he moved his body while receiving assistance according to his physical condition. I would like to use such a service that supports a negative start. Medical facilities and medical staff are required.

img129.jpg

(5) Comprehensive support (7

  • A facility where you can get an explanation of the appropriate exercise for you.

  • Trainers can choose, how to use, etc. are carefully explained.

  • There are people who can consult various things, not just "health" information.

  • I would be happy if you could think of a vegan OK meal menu.

  • A person who can provide diet and appropriate exercise guidance.

img130.jpg

(6) Building inclusive in many ways (6

  • Not only does it have a non-discrimination policy, but it also clearly communicates the inclusion of easily excluded attributes and penalties for violators.

  • An initiative involving facility users, which does not end with poster display and staff training. It seems that using the facility provides an opportunity to think about diversity.

  • Rather than focusing on what kind of people use it, the atmosphere is such that various people can gather as a result of focusing on the activities to be done there. I don't have a disability, but if it's an activity in which people with various disabilities participate, I think I might be able to participate.

  • Sustainable pricing. A low-cost gym that does not require a credit card and can be used with a monthly fee or daily payment.

img131.jpg

(7) Customer service that respects individuals and does not impose values (4)

  • No love talk, no popular talk, no messing around with being stiff or fat, and an environment that doesn't interfere with lifestyle habits.

  • He will only suggest a method that suits you. A lesson that doesn't have to be like this, but it's a lesson that teaches you.

  • Always call out when you touch your body.

  • In the first place, I want trainers to have the idea that body building is not to compare with others or to show masculinity and femininity, but to create the body you want to be for yourself.

img132.jpg

(8) Diverse Participation Methods (9

  • Since I may be absent for a long time due to circumstances or physical condition, it is easier to continue without canceling if I have online lessons, archives if possible, and time consultation lessons.

  • In addition to yoga in the studio, I recently realized that exercising while watching videos at home is also suitable for me.

  • A gym where you can reserve a training machine at a detailed time.

  • I think I can go if I have a fixed time and day to train quietly.

  • There are long sleeves and long pants as an option for changing clothes.

img133.jpg

(9) Club team (2

  • If there are club teams and coaches after becoming a member of society, more people will be able to continue playing sports.

  • We practiced together for about half a year and were involved in a plan to go to the Honolulu Marathon. I was in my mid-twenties at the time, and there weren't any other participants my age, so I couldn't find anything interesting about it.

img134.jpg

Ten. Conclusion

  • The current state of health facilities and movement itself excludes transgender people, queer people, and people with disabilities. The possibility that more people than queers and people with disabilities are actually excluded or feel alienated.

  • Exercise and beauty are dangerous places where lookism and the imposition of values are rampant. You may be more sensitive to barriers.

  • There are many specific proposals from people who find it difficult to use, and the challenge is how to implement them.

img135.jpg

impression

  • It seems that there are quite a few people who are convinced that exercise is only for a certain group of people.

  • We need to change our values, such as the concept of health and the image of exercise. Health and exercise are for everyone.

  • In order for everyone to regain their health and access resources, it is necessary to change the values of facilities, systems, philosophies, managers, trainers, users, etc.

  • We need to think about what an inclusive environment is. To that end, we need to explore how we can concretely realize equality, fairness, and security.

Supplement: Regarding the notation of "disability"

We use the term “disability” or “disability” for the following reasons:

  • The idea of changing the notation of "disability" to "disability" is inappropriate because it is based on the individual model (medical model), which assumes that the cause of restrictions and restrictions on social participation of persons with disabilities lies in functional impairment as an attribute of the individual. .

  • This is because it is written as "disability" in Chinese characters such as China, South Korea, and Taiwan.

  • At present, as a result of interviews with the parties involved, it is decided to use the current "disability" for the time being regarding the notation of "disability" in laws and regulations.
